A Brief History

The community’s first waterworks was developed in the summer of 1960 by business partners Walt Brown and Bill Plaster. From 1963 to 1975, Bill Plaster was the manager of the water utility company, overseeing the daily operations of the system. In 1975, Walt Brown and Bill Plaster dissolved their partnership, and the water company was awarded to Mr. Walt Brown. On October 1, 1975. The water utility company was incorporated by the State of Arizona at that time, officially becoming Ponderosa Utility Corporation.

In December 2009, due to Walt Browns declining health, his son Marshall “Tom” Brown took over the daily operations of the company.  Walt Brown passed away in January 2015. He left Ponderosa Utility Corporation to his son, Marshall “Tom” Brown and his two grandchildren, Marissa Brown and Marcus Brown. To this day, Tom Brown, the Owner and President of the company, walks the community of Mountainaire reading meters for customer billing, and assisting with all water-related maintenance. Marissa Brown is the Secretary-Treasurer of Ponderosa Utility Corporation.

Ponderosa Utility Corporation is proud to carry on the tradition of being a family-owned and operated business while continuing to provide excellent quality drinking water to the residents of Mountainaire, Arizona.
